About BAUK

BAUK is the braille standards setting body for the United Kingdom. It liaises internationally on braille standards and development with similar bodies in other countries.
The membership consists of the following organisations which are affiliated to BAUK:
- Association of Visually-Impaired Office Staff
- British Computer Association of the Blind
- Guide Dogs for the Blind Association
- National Federation of the Blind of the United Kingdom
- National League of the Blind and Disabled
- National Library for the Blind
- Pia
- Royal National Institute for the Blind
- Scottish Braille Press
- Scottish National Federation for the Welfare of the Blind
- St Dunstan's Organisation for Men and Women Blinded on War Service
- Torch Trust for the Blind
- United Kingdom Association of Braille Producers
- Visually Impaired Musicians Association
- Visually Impaired Education and Welfare
These organisations send up to three representatives to BAUK meetings.
In addition, BAUK has a number of individuals as coopted members.

BAUK has a number of committees dealing with specialist topic areas. These committees are composed of a range of experts in the specific areas (e.g. teachers, professionals, users, etc.), not necessarily full members of BAUK itself.
